The Month of March has Triple Expectations.....No.1

As March was approaching, I got the usual thrill of late summer days and the thought of at least another month of glorious warm weather..glorious sunsets and celebration….

Then the realisation came……. three out of four of our little unit have March birthdays, two of which have huge birthday expectations, party ideas that have been a year in the planning…  a mixture of panic and excitement set in......

I love birthdays and parties, but it is very scary when you are facing a tweenie….and a toddler!

So the 7 year old turning 8 decided it was to be a Harry Potter party…now have you seen the birthday cakes that these children want, they are frightening…they are so elaborate that i got into such a cold sweat, until he spotted the cake that Harry received in the movie and the relief was immense.

Now, I am by no means a great baker, not even a very good baker, but there is always a first time…I decided to take on the birthday cake baking task this year….even with a little help from dad…

Okay, to be honest it was a huge cop-out on my part, but sometimes as parents we really do have to take the shortcut easy way out, especially if it means that that little person is grateful...so I just went for it, before he could change his mind and he loved it....shew...

The cake was only the start…searching for chocolate moulds, finding the right jelly beans, and hoping that the entertainment was sufficient…
By the time the day ended I was exhausted…dad was exhausted and our darling 2 almost 3 year old was like a very very drunk 80 year old…and she even fell asleep like one...
it was very scary..but we all survived to tell the tale…and thankfully slept through the night.

By Monday morning, while icing cupcakes for the school party, I felt very fulfilled and so incredibly relieved that it was over and especially because he was happy!!!

The best part of the day is that for another year we as parents have lived up to all his expectations…thank goodness, i breathe with a sigh of relief…

and now for the next party….Frozen anyone….5 sleeps….

The Harry Potter party was successful thanks to Ina Paarman (amazing cake mixtures), Google, of course Enchanted Parties (Cape Town 021 683 0295) and the guests who made it happen........yay for another year....one down and one to go!!!
